CREWDSON - 'TOYS - BROKEN & REMIXED' - OUT NOW!

Toys - Broken + Remixed is the latest release from maverick electronic producer, composer, musician and instrument builder CREWDSON [aka Hugh Jones].

The EP follows on from the recent release of his sparkling and innovative second album 'Toys' - an effortless marriage of cutting edge electronic sonics with folk inspired song-form, lyrical ideas and instrumentation - which has received plaudits from the likes of Stuart Maconie [Freak Zone/BBC6], XLR8R, Clash, Exclaim!, Electronic Sound, Vice, Impose, Folk Radio, The Ransom Note, The Playground and more

…Crewdson crafts skewed sonics that, frankly, boggle the mind; although, somehow, his music is as accessible as it is weird. On TOYS, Crewdson presents a matured sound, one that fuses pop elements with tumbling rhythms and mind-bending sound design. [XLR8R]

'Toys - Broken + Remixed' features four remixes of tracks from the album book-ended by two quirky Crewdson interludes, out-takes which provide a teaser of his eccentric sound world.

One Little Indian signed producer/singer-songwriter s a r a s a r a remixes 'Funny Games', atomising the original and then reconstructing it into an eerie collage of sparse electronics and disembodied vocals, adding her own voice into the mix.

Synth and drums duo and label mates Soccer96 take the deliciously wonky 'Stanner Nab', re-wonk the groove and ride off into a psychedelic sunset with the repeating mantra "They can go fuck themselves..".

Sultan Shakes take 'Children' and deliver an addictive and oddball slice of minimal dance vibes and electronic producer Bambooman, currently receiving huge acclaim for his new album on Accidental, reworks 'Bottle Rain Smoke' to great effect, working a dreamy, naive and lysergic ambience around Crewdson's vocals.

structures. Innovative."
[Hi-Fi Magazine]

Crewdson

It’s been 5 years since producer, composer, musician and instrument builder Crewdson [aka Hugh Jones] released his debut album ‘Gravity’ via Slowfoot Records in 2011. When he announced his arrival with his 12” ‘Dust EP’ a few months earlier he was hailed as one to watch amongst his ʻpost-dubstepʼ peers, “…blowing jazz and glitch into the vessels sails”, and both releases drew huge acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Clash, XLR8R, Time-Out, BBC, Future Sequence and The Fader to name but a few.

Inspired in name and sound by his myriad of self-created weird and wonderful hardware electronic musical instruments, Crewdson's much anticipated second album is effortless marriage of cutting edge electronic sonics with folk inspired song-form, lyrical ideas and instrumentation. 'Toys' is out on Slowfoot Records in July.

Bambooman

For those who know, Bambooman is one of the most sought after, probing, and distinctive voices in UK electronic music right now. The Yorkshire born producer’s catalogue builds into an aural mosaic, comprising everything from scrunched up hip-hop to techno deviance, all delivered with an impish sense of individuality. Yet now, after six meandering but inspired EPs, Bambooman is ready to break with all this and drop his debut album ‘Whispers’.

His live shows have seen him share stages with the likes of MF Doom, Madlib, Jon Hopkins and Venetian snares whilst he has collaborated on releases with UK rapper Jehst and vocalist Segilola. Bambooman's debut full length 'Whispers' is out on Accidental Records in August.

The video is premiered on The Creators Project/ Vice with an in depth feature on Crewdson and his instruments. Check the feature out HERE

It’s been 5 years since  released his debut and only album to date ‘Gravity’ via Slowfoot Records in 2011.

The single is taken from his forthcoming second album 'TOYS' which is now available for pre-order directly from the label on vinyl and CD.

PRESCOTT RELEASE SECOND ALBUM ON THOOFA

PRESCOTT - the London based instrumental group, verging on supergroup, featuring Kev Hopper (Stump, Ticklish), Frank Byng (This Is Not This Heat, Snorkel), Keith Moliné (Pere Ubu) and Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti), have a new record out today. Thier second album 'Thing Or Two' is now out via the Thoofa label..

After the 2014 release of their first album, One Did , Prescott acquired a fourth member in Pere Ubu’s Keith Moliné and a newfound affection for twangy guitar tunes. The new record builds on the arty, minimal intensity of their debut with sweeping melodies and extravagant arrangements.

The startling bass playing of Kev Hopper, the group’s founder, is sprinkled with unexpected pops, slides and trills, a series of musical question marks and raised eyebrows. Frank Byng’s precision drumming is pared down and funky one moment, wildly uninhibited the next, all interweaving with Rhodri Marsden’s broad palette of organs, percussive samples and stabbing synths. Keith Moliné brings improvisatory skills acquired over two decades working with Pere Ubu’s David Thomas, along with the Hank Marvinesque twang that characterises much of the record.

“Prescott are a unique and mischievous proposition” – The List

“Endlessly inventive backdrops which owe a fair amount to both Beefheart and The Residents at their
most wickedly playful” – Prog

“Part particle accelerator, part mutant squash court… a postpunk upending of 1980s jazzfusion,
creating something pretty serious out of a very English irreverence and inquisitiveness” – Misfit City

“A dishevelled Heath Robinson contraption of small moving parts, Prescott make music as hilarious as it is infuriating” – The Wire

“As perplexing as their namesake, Prescott demonstrate the forgotten art of the confounded, the
contrary and the confused, with compelling results” – Flipside

"Soccer96 is a duo that attempts sonic time travel, and it works - they could play anywhere from the era of liquid light shows to the noughties, without ever being too out of place." [The Quietus]

"Drawing on influences like Can, This Heat and Flying Lotus, ‘As Above So Below’ is submerged in old school analogue waters, sparkling with experimental composition as one track flows effortlessly to the next… …an ambitious and impressive album of diverse and gratifying inputs." [Electronic Sound Magazine]

"A phenomenal body of recorded music that combines poly-rhythmic percussion with lively dance tropes." [XLR8R]

"Gorgeous retro-futurism with a slight Animal Collective twinge"  [Clash Magazine]

"The synth-heavy duo have got a new LP on the way and if it's anywhere near as good as their previous releases then we can guarantee you're in for a treat. And hey, after another dismal England performance, it's nice to be reminded that soccer isn't all bad." [Thump]

"As Above So Below is a dazzler, a collection of loose-fit grooves which pack epic ambitions and energetic intentions into the confines of smartly sculpted soundscapes…They quote Brian Eno and Miles Davis as influences, but the fierce fever blowing up on tracks like The Swamp, Spirit Wobble and Between the Whole And the Void provide new punctuation in the lines between jazz, electronica and rock….An album for true adventure-seekers." [4/5 Irish Times]

"Dizzying, massive synths meet hypnotic, swirling drums and spare vocal sounds, all weaved seamlessly between moods and grooves and tracks. It's big." [London In Stereo]

"Soccer96 – pop futurists weaving together Krautrock, G-funk and synthpop into something bold and beautiful" [Red Bull]

"A majestically grooving mix of electro-indie and a South London carnival sound system from the UK duo." [The Independent Playlist]
